6 good reasons why every woman Should Own A Dog- “Woman’s Best Friend”

6 reasons Why every gal should
OWN a dog
“WOMaN’S BEST FRIEND”

We have all heard the term “man’s best friend”. But what about woman’s best friends? Hello!!! I have always had a dog in my life from as long as I can remember. I also admit that growing up our family owned a pony, guinea pigs, gerbils, rabbits, cats and even pet rats. I know crazy right?  There is 6 good reasons every woman/gal should own a dog. A best friend. A dog pal.

I’m not saying women should own a dog over a cat. And I’m not saying dogs are better than cats either. I think cats are adorable. But, I really do believe every gal needs a dog in their life at some point. There is something very special about a close relationship with a pup.

In fact, half of female dog-owners say they would rather spend time with their dogs than with their partner or family members, according to a survey conducted by pet food brand Just Right by Purina.

By talking to my gal pals, it’s evident that the mental-health benefits of owning a dog is huge. Why? In a world that routinely shuts down, is competitive and, compares and demeans women, it’s easy to feel alone. And when you’re working a demanding job—no matter what kind of job—stress, is often rooted in the complexities, and behaviors of the people you work with.

A funny story… when I met my husband Steve in college, we owned a husky dog named Misha. As soon as Steve found out that I had a Husky dog, he was all over me. You see, he grew up with Huskies and loved them. It had nothing to do with both of us being a UW Husky…. just the breed and the fact that I loved dogs. I have always loved the companionship dogs offer.

 WOMEN CRAVE COMPANIONSHIP

Women crave companionship that is completely non-judgmental, jubilant, and pure. I personally don’t know what I would do without my dogs. It’s how they look at me with that genuine sweet face that makes me smile even when I am feeling down. I swear my dogs know when I am sad or hurt. I don’t think we give dogs enough credit for how smart and intuitive they really are.

Dogs are simple creatures. They enjoy love and attention, and they make it easy for you to offer it. Dogs specifically give love and attention without asking for anything in return. They don’t care if you’re fat, skinny, successful, popular, rich, or poor. To them, you’re perfect. When you come home to your dog, there is never any unnecessary drama, ever!  Just tail wagging and slobbery kisses.

Besides all that. There is research that states that dog owners are actually healthier than non dog owners.

The Health Benefits Of Dog Owners

  • Dog owners are less prone to suffer from depression than those without pets.
  • People with dogs have lower blood pressure in stressful situations than those without pets.
  • Playing with a dog can elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine, which calm and relax.
  • Pet owners have lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels (indicators of heart disease) than those without pets.
  • Heart attack patients with pets survive longer than those without.
  • Pet owners over age 65 make 30 percent fewer visits to their doctors than those without pets lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease, according to a 2017 study that followed 3.4 million people in Sweden. Researchers studied men and women between the ages of 40 and 80 and followed their health records (and whether they owned a dog) for about a dozen years. The study found that for people who lived alone, owning a dog can diminish their risk of death by 33 percent and their risk of cardiovascular-related death by 36 percent, compared to single people without a pet. Chances of having a heart attack were also 11 percent lower.

1. Companionship

Companionship can help prevent illness and even add years to your life, while isolation and loneliness can trigger symptoms of depression. Who else will sit on the couch with you and gaze intently at your face as you complain about you didn’t get everything done you wanted to or how you forgot to pick something up at the store. Dogs are pack animals and they want to be part of your pack.

2. Get Exercise And Lose Weight

Get off you ass and walk the dog! Taking a dog for a walk, hike or run are fun and gratifying ways to fit healthy daily exercise into your schedule. One study of over 2,000 adults found that regular dog walkers got more exercise and were less likely to be obese than those who didn’t walk a dog.

3. Reduce Stress with Play

When was the last time you ran around your house acting silly (totally sober ladies) hiding from your dog. Playing with your dog is fun and a healthy in a child-like way releases unnecessary tension.

I lay next to Ranger as I tickle the little hairs between the pads on his paws when he is sleeping. He pops up and twirls in circles. I can do that for hours. It is innocent fun.

4. Become More Social

Pets can be a magnet for their owners, encouraging you start and cultivate new friendships. You never know who you may meet at the dog park.

People love dogs and dogs are like a magnet for many. When I walk my dogs, I meet the most interesting people. People approach my pups and begin talking to them… it’s the best.

5. Makes You Laugh

Never belittle the value and importance of a wonderful belly laugh. Among many other benefits, laughing has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, strengthen resilience, and make us more attractive to others.

Ranger watches TV with me. He follows the basketball or football during a game.  He also loves to hang out and party with the girls on our patio. It’s so stinkin cute! He also thinks any dog on TV is in his home and he goes nuts. He makes us laugh so much it hurts sometimes.

6.  Adds Purpose To Your Day

Many dogs, require a regular feeding and exercise schedule. Having a steady routine keeps an animal balanced and calm—and it can work for you, too. No matter your mood—depressed, anxious, or stressed—one plaintive look from your pet and you must get out of bed to feed, exercise, and care for them.

Let’s not forget, coming home to your dog makes you happy every time!

Bottom line, owning a dog contributes to a healthier lifestyle period! I truly believe most gals, (not all) feel more fulfilled as a dog owner. It’s important to find the breed that is best suits your personality. If you are thinking about getting a dog, do your research and pick a dog that fits your lifestyle. Go to the pound and look at dogs that really need a home. Our Lucky dog is a pound pup and he has been the best dog in the world. He is a mixed breed and we adore him.

Good luck ladies, let me know if you adopt a pup! Send me pictures.

Best,
