Our guests and family regularly gather around our kitchen Island. There is so much laughter and fun that surrounds our new beautiful kitchen island… it’s like a magnet. Everything happens in the kitchen. Sound familiar?
Breakfast, homework and a snacks after school, games and dinner prep conversations and much more. We have rounded up thirteen highly rated counter stools that are both functional and stylish.
Finding the ideal stylish kitchen counter stool is not easy to do. I have been hunting for an ideal counter stool for our island. Currently, we have been using our old swivel stools from our old house which are comfortable but do not fit into the new décor. I need four stools so when my son comes back from college we all can sit at the counter together.
We have an open floor plan and to the right of our kitchen is our living room area so I swivel stool was a requirement for us. The question was did we want to have a back on the stool or not? Steve really wanted to tuck the swivel stools under the counter for a tidy look so that is what we are going for. I thought Frontgate had the best selection of what we were looking for.
I have spent lots of time looking at counter stools and I wanted to share my finds with you.

Bar Height vs. Counter Height
Barstools and counter stools are different sizes so pay attention to the correct height of your counter space.
Bar height are generally around 28 inches high (28 to 32 inches as a rule) in order to fit under table tops with a height of 40 to 42 inches.
Counter stools have a seat height of 24 to 27 inches high for table surfaces that are 36 inches high.
Make sure you measure the distance from the floor to the underside of your counter before ordering so you can narrow your product search to either bar height or counter height models.
Matching Style & Finish
If you are looking at wood stools don’t forget to consider the other wood finishes in the kitchen (i.e. the cabinets and hardwood flooring). Match the same finish for a uniform look or select a darker or lighter wood for more of a contrast.
Matching process is a critical step. What is the theme of your house? If your house has a theme, then it is is suggested to buy kitchen counter stools which match the theme, design or style. Your existing decoration can determine what style you should after.
